How It All Began
My Aunt Betty is 88 years old and lives in a senior living community. While her mind and wit are as lively today as when I was a child, arthritis and back pain require her to use a walker to get around. While visiting her, I watched as she struggled to stand up from her favorite chair.
It pained me to see her suffer so I used my woodworking skills to craft a set of four risers that attached seamlessly to my aunt’s chair. Aunt Betty sat down, stood up, and exclaimed, “Boy, I can stand up without using my arms. I haven’t been able to do that in a long time!”
As an Occupational Therapist of more than 30 years, I’ve seen countless clients who could benefit from furniture risers, but product options are very limited.
Altering furniture to make your life easier and increase independence, shouldn’t diminish the feeling of home, or your dignity.
That’s why I created Risers For You.
